We have all of our available pets online. We are unable to guarantee specific animals shown on this online list will still be available when you apply. If you don't see a pet you're interested in we still encourage you to apply.
PEAR keeps your application on file for six months and we will continue to look for a pet for you during that time with no need for you to reapply.
See what pets we currently have available at the link below.
We encourage everyone to become familiar with our adoption guidelines. Our commitment to you and your pet doesn't end with the adoption. We offer support through the life of your pet!
BEFORE you fill out the application, please read the following points:
ALL applicants must submit an online application and PAY the application fee via the link above and must have the ability to communicate via email with PEAR.
PEAR has an assortment of wonderful cats and dogs available for adoption, and the goal of our dedicated, expert adoption advisers is to help you find a companion who suits your household, lifestyle and personality.
The following information has been designed to help inform you about the adoption process here at PEAR, before you get started with your search for that perfect new companion! Potential Adopters must reside in the state of North Carolina. Residents in other states may be considered for adoption on a case by case basis pending approval by the PEAR Board of Directors.
Our adoption process consists of a review of completed applications by our application review crew, a vet check, a phone interview, and a home visit. Each step in our process must be completed before moving on to the next step. Our process can take up to several weeks from the time an application is completed to final approval – so please be patient as our volunteers work as quickly as they can!
Interested Adopters must complete and submit a PEAR Adoption Application.
Adopters must be approved as an adopter by the PEAR board members and adoption coordinators.
Interested Adopters will be thoroughly screened and references will be checked. Final approval will be determined by members of the board of directors and adoption coordinators based on interview, references, commitment to the adoption program, and guidelines, and connection between you and your chosen pet.
You may be required to attend some of our educational clinics and classes held which will also give you the opportunity to build a good working relationship with your adoptive pet prior to taking it home.
Once you are approved to Adopt you will be required to sign an Adoption Agreement.
PEAR makes every effort to match the personality and abilities of the pet to the adopter’s level of skill and expertise. However, it must be understood that most of PEAR’s rescued pets may need additional training. In some cases, PEAR'S rescued pets, will have little or no prior training. It is the Adopter’s responsibility to obtain professional training for their adopted pet.
Potential Adopters must understand that rescued pets are ones that have been discarded by their previous owners for one reason or another.
Additional information may be obtained by phoning 704-461-3300.
Thank you for your interest in our organization and our pets.
**You must be 23 or older to adopt from PEAR**
If you've found a pet you like, have done your research and are ready to move forward with adopting then please send us your application. We're excited to speak with you!
Whether you have a particular animal in mind, or would like to find out which animals would be recommended for you, we ask that you complete an adoption application. The application is a tool we use to find what you are looking for in a companion animal.
Filling out an application is the first step of the adoption process. We often hear, "it has a lot of questions." Yes, it does. The reason is because we use it, along with your home visit, phone conversations and emails with you to find the perfect pet.
Please note, if interested in a specific pet on our site please list that in your application. However, please understand we review numerous applications for each pet. Your application can be approved, but your home may not be chosen for the pet you requested. We will keep your approved application on file for six months in case you see another pet you may be interested in during that time.
Our goal is a forever placement and we do all we can to ensure that happens.
We always conduct home visits to ensure the home is a safe, secure environment for the pet.
If you have dogs at home, they must successfully meet the dog you’re considering before completing the adoption, however; if you're interested in a puppy who is not fully vaccinated then we won't do a pet introduction.
To ensure a good fit, we also require other household members, including any children, to meet your potential new companion. All members of the household need to be present for the home visit.
PEAR reserves the right to approve or deny all applications, as we are committed to the welfare of the animals in our care, as well as meeting your personal needs.
Adoption visits are done in designated locations, sometimes at the foster's home; they typically last for thirty minutes with the foster and PEAR coordinator.
If your visit was a success and the adoption process is complete, we will finalize the adoption when the animal is ready to go home. Our adoption fee ranges from $295-$325 for dogs & puppies, cats and kittens are $150.
**Adopters must be 23 years or older, have a valid driver’s license or picture ID, provide payment, and are required to sign the adoption contract before placement.**
You will receive a packet of resources to assist you with your new companion.
We have cats, kittens, dogs and puppies available all the time. We welcome you to view photos and profiles for some of them below.
We are unable to guarantee specific animals shown on this online list will still be available when you apply.
We make every effort to keep this information up-to-date. When submitting an application, please keep in mind that there may be multiple people interested in the same type of animal, so it may take a little time to find your perfect companion.
We can take inquiries, but cannot place animals on hold via phone, fax, or e-mail.
Thank you for understanding!
The PEAR Seniors for Seniors program offers a special reduced adoption fee of $95 to help seniors who are living on a fixed income.
The program places senior cats and dogs (typically over 7 years of age) with qualified senior citizens who are 60 years of age or older.
Looking for a specific breed, a puppy or a kitten, and need assistance finding an appropriate match? The Pet Request program may be just what you need to find that perfect match. There is a $100 fee added to the standard adoption fee for this service, which is charged at the time of adoption.
