Dog Training

Keeping pets with their families for life

Often, dogs are relinquished to shelters because of a behavioral issue their owners can't manage. To help keep these animals in their homes, PEAR supports low-income dog owners in Mecklenburg & Union County by referring them to the appropriate dog trainer or training class, or by setting up and sponsoring/co-sponsoring a private session with a local trainer, depending on a dog's specific needs.

Who qualifies?

Low-income pet owners who cannot afford to pay for dog training and whose dogs are at risk at ending up in a shelter due to a behavioral issue that causes hardship for the family and/or pet. Dogs need to be vaccinated and altered before entering our program. If you cannot afford to alter and vaccinate your pet, we can help.
