Assistance with Vet Care

Our Veterinary Intervention Program provides help with veterinary care to low-income, senior, military veterans, disabled and homeless pet owners in Mecklenburg & Union County, NC and nearby surrounding areas. Our goal: to ensure all cats and dogs have access to medical treatment and can stay with their families for life. As funding allows, we offer a range of services in our mobile clinic and through veterinary clinic partners.

  • Vaccinations
  • Parasite control
  • Flea prevention and treatment
  • Microchipping
  • Nail trimming
  • Ear cleaning
  • Wound care
  • Treatment of skin problems, such as flea allergies
  • Dental cleanings and extractions
  • Hernia repairs
  • Mass removals
  • Euthanasia of pets that have reached the end of their life cycle or are so severely ill or injured that they cannot be treated.

All pets receive a physical exam by our veterinarian prior to treatment.

Who qualifies for our services?

PEAR accepts clients that reside in Mecklenburg & Union County, NC and nearby surrounding areas on a case-by-case basis, always depending on funding availability. We request that all clients first apply for Care Credit (a healthcare credit institution unrelated to PEAR) to help cover veterinary costs. Scratch Pay is another, similar service to apply for.

Clients have to reside in Mecklenburg or Union county, NC and show proof of financial need. This includes providing a copy of at least one of the following:

  • Unemployment
  • Social Security
  • SSI Disability-State or federally funded welfare program
  • Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Non-commissioned active military
  • Extreme medical expense, such as loss of home due to natural disaster
  • Pay stub proving income meets state or federal low-income or WIC guidelines

If you do not live in our servicing area  we are unable to provide assistance at this time.

Sponsor This Program

It's only through generous donations that we can help provide veterinary care for animals in need. Please consider making a one time or monthly donation to the Vet Assistance program.

Your donations not only help pets but it also helps families in need care for their pets long term. At times, these families need temporary help in order to prevent their pets from being re-homed or surrendered to a shelter.
